Trial Over Soccer Legend Maradona's Death Postponed by Argentina Court
In a significant development from Argentina, the trial concerning the death of soccer icon Diego Maradona has been delayed to October 1. Initially scheduled for June 4, the postponement was announced by a criminal court in San Isidro, located on the outskirts of Buenos Aires. The delay stems from unresolved issues raised by all parties involved in the criminal negligence case against eight individuals. These individuals, comprising doctors and nurses, are accused of contributing to Maradona's demise through potential mishandling of his medical care.

Diego Maradona, celebrated for leading Argentina to victory in the 1986 World Cup, passed away on November 25, 2020, at the age of 60 due to a cardiorespiratory arrest. His death prompted an investigation at the behest of his family members, leading to the current trial. The defendants have contested any wrongdoing or irregularities in the treatment provided to Maradona, who was recuperating at a rented residence following surgery to address possible brain bleeding.
One of the pivotal questions yet to be resolved is whether the trial will be conducted before the three magistrates of the court or a popular jury, as requested by one of the accused nurses. The trial is expected to feature testimonies from over 200 witnesses, including Maradona's daughters and several former partners.
A medical report has shed light on Maradona's health condition prior to his death, indicating he suffered from cardiac insufficiency and endured agony for up to 12 hours without receiving appropriate care for someone in his state. This revelation adds a layer of complexity to the trial, as it scrutinizes the medical attention Maradona received during his final days.
