On Mother’s Day, CM Rekha Gupta Visits Childcare Home, Announces Major Youth Rehabilitation Initiative

On the occasion of Mother's Day, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the Village Cottage Home in Lajpat Nagar and announced a major welfare initiative aimed at supporting young adults transitioning out of childcare institutions. The newly launched "Aftercare Scheme for Young Persons" seeks to provide a strong support system for children above the age of 18 who are stepping into independent life after leaving institutional care.

Highlighting the Delhi Government's commitment towards youth welfare and rehabilitation, Rekha Gupta said the scheme has been allocated a budget of ₹3.5 crore for the financial year 2026-27. The initiative is designed to ensure that vulnerable young adults are not left without support once they age out of childcare homes.

Under the scheme, beneficiaries will receive assistance in higher education, skill development, vocational training, career counselling, internships and rehabilitation support. Financial aid will also be provided to help them build a stable and self-reliant future. The programme aims to bridge the gap between institutional care and independent living by equipping youngsters with the tools and opportunities needed to succeed in society.

During her interaction with children and staff at the Village Cottage Home, Rekha Gupta emphasised that every young person deserves guidance, dignity and equal opportunities to fulfil their aspirations. She stated that the Delhi Government is committed to creating an inclusive and compassionate support system for children who do not have family backing.

Officials said the "Aftercare Scheme for Young Persons" will focus not only on financial assistance but also on emotional and professional mentoring to help beneficiaries confidently transition into adulthood. The initiative is being seen as a significant step towards strengthening Delhi's child protection and rehabilitation framework.

The announcement on Mother's Day added emotional significance to the event, reflecting the government's message of care, protection and empowerment for every child and young adult in need.
