IAS Coaching Deaths: Delhi Government Advisory For Schools- Here's All You Need To Know
In response to the tragic drowning of three IAS aspirants in the basement of a coaching centre, Vinai Kumar Saxena, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, has established a panel led by the chief secretary to address issues related to the regulation of coaching centres.
The committee will develop an action plan for relocating coaching institutes from various locations to well-planned areas.

Protests and Government Response
The incident has sparked widespread protests, with students demanding immediate action and accountability from local authorities. Delhi Education Minister Atishi met with protesting students in Old Rajinder Nagar, urging them to submit the names of 10 representatives to be included in a panel that will draft a law regulating coaching institutes in the national capital, as reported by Hindustan Times.
Student Engagement and Drafting New Regulations
Despite being met with slogans of "Go back" and "We want justice," Atishi assured the protesters of the government's support. She invited the students to participate in the drafting process, ensuring their issues regarding brokerage, rent, and electricity would be considered. The committee is expected to prepare a draft of the law within a month, which will then be shared with the students, as reported by Hindustan Times.
New Guidelines for Schools
In the meantime, the Delhi government has issued new guidelines for all schools to enhance safety measures:
- Basements in school buildings shall only be used for permissible activities as per the Master Plan and the sanctioned plan.
- All gates of school buildings must be functional and open for entry and exit.
- Access to the basement must be properly marked and included in the school evacuation plan.
- Corridors must be free of obstructions at all times to ensure smooth passage.
- Water accumulation in school corridors and staircases must be regularly checked and addressed.
- Electrical wiring and fittings, including appliances, must be inspected, and all safety norms followed to avoid incidents.
- Requisite fire safety measures must be in place in all schools.
These steps are aimed at preventing such tragedies in the future and ensuring a safer environment for students.
