EXPLAINED | Why Are Over 50 Top Leaders Filing Nominations Today For Delhi Elections 2025?
Delhi: More than 50 prominent political leaders, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri, and Congress's Devendra Yadav, are filing their nominations today for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, scheduled for February 5, 2025. This significant day sees a surge of political leaders officially entering the fray as the nomination process heads into its final days.

Delhi Elections 2025: Astrological Significance Behind Nominations
The timing of today's nominations has caught attention due to an astrologer's prediction. Ved Prakash Mishra, an astrologer, stated that the filing of nominations today aligns with an auspicious period, referred to as the "Shukla Paksha Dwitiya Tithi," considered highly favourable for important activities. He emphasized that the period between 1 pm and 3 pm is especially auspicious, as planetary positions are believed to be in perfect alignment. While the favourable period is crucial, Mishra added that the outcome also depends on individual astrological charts.
Delhi Elections 2025: Candidates Set to Contest from Key Seats
Among those filing their nominations are Arvind Kejriwal, contesting from the New Delhi seat, and BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri, who is vying for the Kalkaji seat. Other notable leaders submitting their papers include AAP's Satyendar Jain from Shakur Basti, BJP's Ravinder Gupta from Rohini, and Congress's Devender Yadav from Badali. These high-profile leaders' participation marks the beginning of an intense election battle in the capital.
Nomination Process and Key Deadlines
The nomination process for the Delhi Assembly elections began on January 10, and the last date for submission is January 17, 2025. As of now, 85 nominations have been filed, with 20 submissions made on January 13 alone. The final list of candidates is expected to include contenders from all major political parties, including the ruling AAP, BJP, and Congress.
So far, the AAP has announced candidates for all 70 seats, while the BJP and Congress have released partial candidate lists, with 58 and 63 candidates named, respectively. Some prominent figures have already filed their papers, including AAP’s Atishi from Kalkaji, facing Congress’s Alka Lamba.
Election Dates and Voting Process
The voting for the 70-member Delhi Assembly will take place on February 5, 2025, with the results set to be declared on February 8, 2025. As the election draws closer, the political scene in Delhi heats up with crucial nominations being filed, setting the stage for a highly anticipated contest.
