Dry Days In Delhi In October: Liquor Shops To Be Closed For 4 Days; Here's Why
Liquor outlets in Delhi will be shut for four days in October. This decision, announced by the excise department, aligns with major national holidays and religious festivals. Excise Department Commissioner Ravi Jha issued an official order detailing these dry days.
The excise department's directive ensures that liquor sales are halted during these significant occasions. Gandhi Jayanti is a nationwide dry day to honour Mahatma Gandhi, known as the "Father of the Nation." Similarly, religious festivals like Vijay Dashami and Diwali are also recognised as dry days.

In October, four significant dates have been designated as dry days. These include:
- Gandhi Jayanti on October 2nd
- Vijaya Dashami on October 12th
- Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti on October 17th
- and Diwali on October 31st
Each of these days holds cultural or historical importance in India.
Hotel Exemptions and Compliance
While retail liquor sales face restrictions on these dry days, hotels with L-15 and L-15F licences can serve alcohol to their resident guests. However, shop owners will not receive compensation for lost sales during these periods. The excise department has emphasised strict adherence to this directive.
This order specifically targets retail alcohol sales and does not affect consumption within licensed hotels. Violations of this directive will lead to penalties as per the excise department's warning.
