Delhi Records Coldest Morning Of The Season At 7.1 Degrees Celsius

On Saturday, Delhi experienced its chilliest morning yet this season, as temperatures dipped to 7.1 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported. This temperature marked a significant drop, being three degrees below what is typically expected around this time of the year. The following day, Sunday, continued to showcase the season's cold grip with similar readings.

The cold wasn't the only concern for Delhiites, as the city's air quality deteriorated, moving from moderate to poor. This shift was marked by the Central Pollution Control Board's data, which showed the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching 225 at 10 am. This decline in air quality follows three consecutive days of moderate conditions, indicating a worrying trend for the city's environment.

Various locations across Delhi reported AQI levels that further underscored the pollution problem. For instance, Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 306, while other areas like Patparganj and Rohini observed readings of 218 and 243, respectively. The AQI scale clarifies that anything between 201 and 300 falls under 'poor,' making it clear that Delhi's air quality poses concerns for its residents.

The severity of the situation is highlighted by the AQI levels recorded in different parts of the city. Notable readings include Mundka at 272, ITO at 245, and Sri Aurobindo Marg at 206, all of which are classified as 'poor' according to the AQI scale. This classification is part of a broader spectrum that categorizes air quality from 'good' to 'severe,' with Delhi's AQI frequently falling into the latter, more concerning categories. The adverse effects of such pollution levels have led to residents experiencing breathing difficulties and various health issues, although there was a brief improvement in air quality before it once again worsened.

Adding to the city's weather woes, the IMD reported high humidity levels of 89 percent around 8:30 am. Despite the cold and pollution, the weather forecast predicts mainly clear skies with a maximum temperature hovering around 25 degrees Celsius. This mixed bag of climatic conditions paints a complex picture for Delhi, grappling with both seasonal cold and persistent air quality issues.
