Delhi Elections 2025 Date: When Will The Polls Be Held In National Capital? EC To Announce Dates Soon

India is gearing up for another electoral showdown as New Delhi prepares for its upcoming assembly elections, likely to be held in February 2025. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has yet to release the official poll schedule, but anticipation is already building among political parties and voters.

The seventh Delhi Legislative Assembly's final session concluded on December 5, with the assembly being adjourned sine die. The term of the current assembly is set to expire on February 23, 2025. In the lead-up to the elections, the ECI is conducting a special summary revision of electoral rolls, a standard procedure before announcing elections in any state or Union Territory.

When Will EC Announce Delhi Assembly Elections Date?

The ECI has confirmed that the final electoral roll for Delhi's assembly elections will be published on January 6, 2025. The announcement of election dates is expected shortly afterwards, possibly by mid-January.

Recap: Delhi Elections 2020

The last Delhi Assembly elections took place on February 8, 2020, with results declared on February 11. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal, emerged victorious, securing 63 out of 70 seats. This was a slight decline from their 2015 landslide victory, where they won 67 seats. The term of the assembly formed in 2020 will end on February 22, 2025.

The AAP is now seeking a third consecutive term in office, having already announced candidates for all 70 seats. In contrast, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has yet to release its candidate list, while the Congress has named 47 candidates across two lists so far.

Campaign Strategies Heat Up

Both AAP and BJP have launched intense campaigns to sway voters ahead of the polls. The BJP has accused AAP of voter fraud, claiming multiple fraudulent entries have been registered under single addresses without the homeowners' consent. The party released a poster targeting Arvind Kejriwal, alleging that this "new game" was an attempt to manipulate the electoral process.

As the political battle intensifies, all eyes are on the ECI's next moves and the strategies parties will employ to win over the electorate. Voters and observers alike are eagerly awaiting further updates as the countdown to Delhi's assembly elections begins.
