Delhi Assembly Polls: AAP Vs BJP Vs Congress - Stage Set For Intense Triangular Contest

As Delhi gears up for its Assembly elections on February 5, with results expected on February 8, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is making a strong push to reclaim power in the capital after a hiatus of over two decades.

Delhi Polls To Witness Intense Fight

Armed with the slogan "Parivartan" (change), the BJP is strategically challenging the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led by Arvind Kejriwal, accusing it of corruption and governance failures. The BJP, which last ruled Delhi from 1993 to 1998 under the leadership of Madan Lal Khurana, Sahib Singh Verma, and Sushma Swaraj, is keen to break AAP's recent stronghold over Delhi's political scene.

Delhi Assembly Polls Aap Vs BJP Vs Congress - Stage Set For Intense Triangular Contest

In preparation for the electoral showdown, AAP has taken a proactive approach by finalizing its candidate list early. Arvind Kejriwal is set to contest from the New Delhi constituency, while Chief Minister Atishi will represent Kalkaji. In response, the BJP and Congress have also fielded their contenders, including high-profile names like Parvesh Verma and Sandeep Dikshit for the BJP and Congress, respectively.

Kejriwal's Competitors

Both the leaders positioned as key challengers to Kejriwal in New Delhi. The BJP is hopeful about dethroning AAP by highlighting Kejriwal's tarnished image due to corruption charges and his administration's shortcomings.

Despite facing allegations and a vigorous campaign from the BJP, AAP maintains a positive outlook on the upcoming elections. The party underscores Kejriwal's integrity and a series of promising policies, such as introducing a monthly stipend for qualifying women, to solidify its hold on power.

Meanwhile, the Congress party is attempting to regain its lost ground by launching robust candidates and similar welfare schemes targeting women, aiming to recapture its past influence in the region.

The political atmosphere in Delhi has become intensely competitive, with AAP and the BJP trading accusations. AAP alleges that the BJP is tampering with the electoral rolls, while the BJP accuses AAP of harboring illegal immigrants for votes.

Will AAP Retain Power?

Adding to the political manoeuvring, the BJP has successfully drawn former AAP and Congress leaders into its ranks, signalling its determination to pose a significant challenge.

Historically, AAP has enjoyed widespread support in Delhi, marking significant victories in past Assembly elections and diminishing the presence of both the BJP and Congress. The forthcoming election stands as a pivotal moment, with the potential to drastically alter Delhi's political dynamics.

The BJP's campaign to end AAP's reign in Delhi, coupled with efforts from all parties to woo voters through various promises and accusations, sets the stage for a fiercely contested battle that may redefine the capital's governance and political alignments.
