Caught in sting operation, AAP member Shazia Ilmi offers resignation
After the sting video footage was released, former journalist and AAP candidate from RK Puram constituency, Shazia Ilmi offered her reisgnation and said that she would not contest the elections. "I hereby offer to resign and not contest elections. I do not want the party's image to be sullied," she said on Times Now. She went on to add that until her name was not cleared, she would not contest the elections.
According to the sting operation footage, Ilmi is seen talking to an undercover journalist and accepting donations without following any proper procedures. According to the video, the undercover journalist seeks help from Ilmi to malign the image of a corporate and in turn offers Rs 25 lakhs.
Ilmi: I do not want the party's image to be sullied
To this Ilmi said that she would participate in a campaign and the money will be taken in cash. She added and said that this would be used for the party, to pay the salary of the volunteers .However she did say that she would do all this only if proper documents were given to her.
AAP member Yogendra Yadav, on Friday said that the party will not accept Ilmi's resignation and instead demanded that the raw footage be given to the AAP for a probe.
Along with Ilmi, AAP candidates Manoj Kumar, Dinesh Mohaniya, Irfan Ullah Khan, Mukesh Hooda Prakash and Bhawana Gaur are seen in the video.
The Delhi Election Commission has asked Anuranjan Jha, CEO, Media Sarkar to submit the full sting operation video by 5 pm on Friday.
