Will Maharashtra Schools Be Closed Tomorrow Due To Maharashtra Bandh? Here’s What Parents Need To Know
Schools in Maharashtra may remain closed tomorrow, August 24, due to a statewide 'bandh' called by the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).
The 'bandh' has been organised in response to the recent Badlapur incident, which has sparked outrage across the state. Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, who announced the bandh, emphasised that it is a non-political move aimed at highlighting the need for enhanced safety measures for women and girls. He urged all citizens to unite in support of the cause.

The MVA, comprising the Congress, Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT), and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Sharad Pawar, is spearheading the protest. The bandh is expected to have a significant impact on public services, including transportation, which may further influence the decision of schools to remain closed.
Government Response
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has criticised the bandh, labelling it as a political move aimed at disrupting the promotional event for the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, scheduled for August 24. Despite the bandh, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has confirmed that the government will proceed with the public function to promote this ambitious initiative in Yavatmal, located in the Vidarbha region of the state.
Will Schools Be Closed?
While no official announcement has been made regarding the closure of schools, it is anticipated that some institutions may choose to remain closed as a precaution due to the bandh.
Both government and private schools have yet to declare a holiday, but students and parents are encouraged to stay informed by maintaining regular contact with school administration. In the past, schools have opted for online classes or declared holidays during similar events to ensure the safety of students.
Will Banks Be Closed?
In addition to this, it is important to note that banks across the country will be closed on Saturday, August 24.
This closure is in line with the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) guidelines, which stipulate that banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, as well as on Sundays, national holidays, and regional holidays. Therefore, banking services will not be available on this day, adding another layer of disruption to the normal functioning of the state.
As the situation unfolds, residents of Maharashtra are advised to remain updated on potential disruptions and plan accordingly.
