Will Chhagan Bhujbal Quit NCP Ajit Pawar? After Getting No Place In Maharashtra Cabinet
If the speculations are to be believed, then popular Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Chhagan Bhujbal is not happy after being omitted from the recently minted Mahayuti Cabinet. His disappointment comes in the wake of the cabinet's first expansion, led by Devendra Fadnavis, which saw the induction of 39 legislators from the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP. This reshuffling included the introduction of 16 new faces while bidding adieu to 10 former ministers. Bhujbal's exclusion, alongside other seasoned politicians like NCP's Dilip Walse Patil and BJP's Sudhir Mungantiwar and Vijaykumar Gavit, has stirred conversations about the underlying reasons and future implications.
Bhujbal's discontent was palpable as he addressed the media, stating, "I am upset at not being included in the new cabinet. I am an ordinary political worker. It doesn't matter if I am sidelined or rewarded. Ministerial berths come and go, but I cannot be finished off." This statement underscores his resilience and determination to remain a pivotal figure in Maharashtra's political landscape, despite the setback. Bhujbal's grievance is rooted in his confrontation with Manoj Jarange, an activist spearheading a campaign for Maratha community reservations in jobs and education, which he believes led to his exclusion.

When probed about his forthcoming actions, Bhujbal, representing Yeola in Nashik, remained contemplative. He mentioned, "Let me see. Let me think it over. I will talk to my constituency and discuss with the Samata Parishad." This indicates his intention to engage with his supporters and strategize his next moves carefully, taking into consideration the sentiments of his constituents.
Reactions and Responses to the Cabinet Reshuffle
Deepak Kesarkar, a Shiv Sena leader and another politician left out of the cabinet, chose to adopt a more accepting stance. He remarked, "When we authorised our party leader to make a decision, we have to abide by it and share the happiness of the newly sworn-in ministers. There are political compulsions as the party leader has to give representation to all regions and communities." His comments reflect an understanding of the political dynamics and the necessity of balancing regional and community interests within the coalition.
On the other side of the spectrum, Congress leader Bhai Jagtap critiqued the cabinet's decision to implement a "performance audit" for ministers, as highlighted by Fadnavis. Jagtap questioned the rationale behind waiting for two and a half years to evaluate a minister's performance, arguing, "If a minister doesn't perform, why wait for two and a half years? The duration cannot be a parameter for the performance audit." He also predicted a public movement against electronic voting machines in the coming years, hinting at broader political challenges ahead.
Fadnavis's emphasis on a "performance audit" signifies an effort to ensure accountability and efficiency within the cabinet, a move that Bhujbal chose not to comment on directly. This approach to governance and cabinet formation has garnered mixed reactions, highlighting the complex interplay of political strategy, performance, and representation.
The recent developments in Maharashtra's political scene, marked by the cabinet expansion and the exclusion of key figures like Bhujbal, spark debates on leadership, representation, and the criteria for political appointments. As these politicians navigate their next steps, the focus remains on how these changes will influence the state's governance and the future trajectories of those impacted by the reshuffle.
