What Is The Rasmalai Trend With Raj Thackeray Going Viral On Social Media? Check Here
After the BJP-Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena alliance secured a major victory in Mumbai's civic polls, ending the Thackeray family's 25-year control over the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), BJP leader Tajinder Bagga made a symbolic gesture that quickly grabbed attention online.

Bagga sent boxes of ras malai to Uddhav Thackeray, Raj Thackeray and Aaditya Thackeray, referring to earlier political remarks linked to the popular sweet.
Sharing the moment on X (formerly Twitter), Bagga wrote that political differences will always remain, but the Thackeray family is not an enemy. He added that he had ordered three boxes of ras malai to be delivered to Matoshree, expressing hope that they would enjoy it. The post was widely shared and sparked fresh reactions across social media platforms.
Origin of the Rasmalai Remark
The ras malai reference dates back to a speech by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, in which he took a swipe at BJP leader K. Annamalai. During the address, Raj Thackeray used the word "rasmalai" while questioning Annamalai's political presence in Maharashtra and recalled old Shiv Sena slogans such as "Hatao lungi, bajao pungi," slogans popular during the party's early years under Balasaheb Thackeray.
The comment triggered criticism and soon became a talking point among BJP leaders and supporters, eventually turning into a meme trend following the BMC election results.
Social Media Flooded With Rasmalai Memes
After the election outcome, social media saw a wave of edited images, memes and AI-generated visuals centered around ras malai. One viral image showed Raj Thackeray offering ras malai to K. Annamalai, accompanied by humorous captions. BJP MP P.C. Mohan also joined the trend, posting that he had ordered ras malai while tagging the BMC results.
Another edited image showed senior BJP leaders celebrating in the background as ras malai was being distributed, adding to the online buzz.
BJP Leaders React to Civic Poll Win
Reacting to the results, BJP Yuva Morcha National President Tejasvi Surya described the outcome as a "sweet rasmalai victory" for the party in Mumbai. He congratulated Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and party workers, stating that the "triple-engine government" would focus on Mumbai's redevelopment and improving the quality of life for residents.
Political commentator Shantanu Gupta also joined the light-hearted chatter, posting about enjoying idli, sambar and ras malai for dinner, reflecting the celebratory mood online.
