Shiv Sena's Uday Samant Eyes 5th Consecutive Term In Ratnagiri, Rides On Development Wave

Just as Shiv Sena has a tradition of rugged and aggressive Shiv Sainiks, it also has a strong legacy of calm and composed ones.

Among those who stood with Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray were notable, poised leaders like Pramod Navalkar, Sudhir Joshi, Dattaji Salvi, and Manohar Joshi.

These balanced leaders helped Shiv Sena gain acceptance among educated, middle-class Marathi people. Today, in the current Shiv Sena, Ratnagiri MLA and the state's Industry Minister Uday Samant represents this tradition.

Uday Samant hails from a business family; his father, Ravindra Samant, is a prominent contractor. Driven by a passion for social work from an early age, Samant entered the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly at just 26.

After winning two consecutive elections on a Nationalist Congress Party ticket, he joined Shiv Sena in 2014. His appeal among the youth, extensive involvement in local cultural and religious programs, generous assistance to various causes, and support for sports initiatives have all helped him build a strong base in the Ratnagiri.

Samant's grip on his constituency is so solid that Opposition parties must carefully consider their candidates to stand against him. He won the seat under Shiv Sena ticket in 2014, later joining Uddhav Thackeray's cabinet in 2019 as Minister for Higher and Technical Education.

In 2022, when a political shift occurred, with 40 Shiv Sena MLAs and eight ministers rejecting Uddhav Thackeray's leadership and appointing Eknath Shinde as party leader, Samant was among the last ministers to join Shinde's camp.

Major Investments in Maharashtra

In Eknath Shinde's cabinet, Samant was entrusted with the Industry portfolio. Under the leadership of CM Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Ajit Pawar, Samant has diligently handled the Industry department, bringing substantial investments into Maharashtra.

Numerous MoUs signed and increased investments testify to his competence. With his educated and refined demeanour, Samant enjoys respect in elite circles, making him well-accepted in those groups.

Transformation of Ratnagiri

Since joining Shiv Sena, Uday Samant has transformed Ratnagiri city and its surrounding areas over the past decade. He has focused extensively on improving internal roads and attracting large amounts of funding for constituency development.

His influence in Ratnagiri has remained steadfast over the past 20 years, but as a minister, his contributions to Maharashtra's development have been even more crucial.

Rs 29,000 Crore Investment in Ratnagiri

Ratnagiri is a city on Maharashtra's western coast, with an economy mainly based on mangoes, fishing, and tourism. However, the MIDC in Ratnagiri and Chiplun also provide considerable employment to locals.

As the Industry Minister, Samant has attracted investments worth Rs 29,000 crore to Ratnagiri, establishing a massive project in the Watad MIDC that will generate 38,000 direct and indirect jobs. This critical project for Konkan will heavily reduce migration to Mumbai once operational.

Ratnagiri Set to Gain a Medical College

Ratnagiri is known for its attractions like Aare Ware beach, Thiba Palace, and Bhatye beach. Through Samant's efforts, a planetarium has been built in Ratnagiri.

Named the Shrimant Hinduhriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Planetarium, this facility will help promote scientific thought in Ratnagiri.

For years, there has been a demand for a medical college in Ratnagiri, in line with the government's "One District, One Medical College" policy.

Samant's efforts have brought this project to the cusp of realisation, which will improve both educational opportunities for youth and healthcare services in the district.

Maharashtra's Tallest Statue of Shivaji

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is not only the pride of Maharashtra but of India as a whole. Through his vision of Hindavi Swarajya, Shivaji instilled a sense of freedom and self-respect in Maharashtra.

Samant's efforts have led to the erection of Maharashtra's tallest statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Ratnagiri.

Solar Power Project in Golap

Solar power is essential in today's times. To meet Maharashtra's growing energy needs, the government is focusing on solar energy. Samant's efforts have resulted in the development of a 1,000-kilowatt solar power project in Golap.

This project will reduce farmers' electricity bills significantly and is crucial in providing a reliable power supply.

Renovation of the Savarkar Auditorium

Vinayak Damodar Savarkar is a shining figure in India's independence struggle. After being freed from Andaman, Savarkar spent time in Ratnagiri, establishing a deep connection with the city. Through Samant's efforts, the Savarkar auditorium in Ratnagiri has been modernised.

This venue, with an increased seating capacity of 900, is an essential space for cultural development, providing local artists with a dedicated platform.

Ready for Fifth Victory

Through his numerous initiatives, Uday Samant has built a vast public connection in Ratnagiri and the surrounding areas. His brother Kiran Samant and father Ravindra Samant have also offered substantial support. Eknath Shinde has once again chosen Uday Samant to represent Ratnagiri.

Former BJP rebel Bal Mane, who lost to Samant in 2004 and 2009, has been selected by Uddhav Thackeray's faction. Backed by his public rapport and development work, Uday Samant is geared up for his fifth victory.
