Saif Ali Khan Attack Case: Bandra Police Detains Suspect Accused Of Attacking Bollywood Actor

The Mumbai Police on Friday detained a suspect who attacked Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan during a robbery attempt on Thursday.

Suspect Identified Yet To Be Revealed

The suspect, who was captured on CCTV near Khan's home, was detained near Bandra railway station on Friday. While officials have not yet confirmed whether he is the attacker, the image from the footage bears a strong resemblance. Investigators believe the suspect changed his clothes to avoid being identified. Police have formed 20 teams, employing technical data and informer networks to track the accused.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday when an intruder broke into Saif Ali Khan's residence and attacked him with a knife. Khan sustained six stab wounds, two of which are severe, including one dangerously close to his spine.

Saif was rushed to Lilavati Hospital at 3:30 AM, where he underwent surgery led by neurosurgeon Dr. Nitin Dange, cosmetic surgeon Dr. Leena Jain, and anesthesiologist Dr. Nisha Gandhi.

Lilavati Hospital's Chief Operating Officer (COO) Dr Niraj Uttamani said, "We removed a 2.5-inch piece of knife from the spine." Asked about the actor's injuries, he said there were two severe, two intermediate injuries and two abrasions.

"We wish to inform you that fortunately Saif Ali Khan's surgery has been done very well. He is on the recovery path. He has been shifted to the ICU. Maybe in a day or two he will be shifted to the ward," PTI quoted Dr Uttamani as saying.

Kareena's Statement

In a statement, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif's wife, confirmed the attempted burglary and reassured fans about the family's safety. "Saif sustained injuries to his arm and is undergoing a procedure. The rest of the family is fine. We urge everyone to refrain from speculation as the police are conducting a thorough investigation," the statement read.

A case of robbery, trespassing, and grievous injury has been registered. The police suspect the attacker acted alone and fled the scene after the incident.
