Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Crackdowns 41 Unauthorized Hotels, Bars, and Pubs Following Porsche Accident

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified its crackdown on unauthorized constructions at various hotels, restaurants, and bars, including ladies' bars, pubs, lodges, and hookah parlours, as per the Newsband, a news agency.

This action was spurred by recent incidents and directives from Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Following similar operations in Pune, Thane, and Mumbai, the NMMC's anti-encroachment drive targeted 41 establishments across the city.

The operation was conducted under the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Kailas Shinde, who was personally present during the drive. He was accompanied by Additional Municipal Commissioner Sunil Pawar and Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Anti-Encroachment) Dr Rahul Gethe, who led the operation. The drive commenced on the night of June 30 and continued into the early hours of July 1, focusing on curbing illegal extensions and misuse of marginal spaces.

"Twenty-three establishments in Belapur, six in Nerul, three in Vashi, and others in Kopar Khairane, Ghansoli, and Airoli wards were addressed during the drive," confirmed Dr Gethe in a report shared by the Hindustan Times. He underscored the NMMC's commitment to sustained action against violations, emphasizing zero tolerance for illegal construction and misuse of space.

The Newsband further says that in the Belapur division, action was taken against establishments including VIP, Dhum Night, Night Angel, Cabana, Bebo, and Starry Night. Similarly, in the Nerul division, actions were taken at places like Sai Darbar in Sector 02, Nerul, Bharti Bar in Sector 1, Shiravane, and Ganga Sagar Lodge near CNG Pump Sector 13. The Vashi division also saw scrutiny at Hotel Golden Suites and Amber Restaurant & Bar in Vashi Plaza, Sector-17.

Other areas targeted included Ghansoli, Koparkhairane, and Airoli, where unauthorized constructions at various hotels, bars, pubs, and hookah parlours were inspected and actioned upon.

The NMMC's actions followed an accident in Pune in which two engineers were killed by a minor driving a Porsche, a luxury car, allegedly after drinking in bars. Recent actions were also prompted by a video showing youths reportedly partying at a Pune bar beyond permitted hours and engaging in drug-like activities.

The NMMC has reiterated its stance on maintaining strict regulations and ensuring public safety by preventing unauthorized activities and constructions within the city.
