Mumbai Underground Metro: Discover Aqua Line’s Stops For Faster, Easier Commutes; Station List Inside

Mumbai's first underground metro, the Aqua Line, is likely to be operational soon. This new metro line is expected to ease traffic and enhance connectivity in Maharashtra's capital, Mumbai. The completion of the project, originally scheduled for September, is now anticipated around the end of 2024.

The 33.5-kilometre Aqua Line will run from Aarey Colony in the north to Cuffe Parade in the south, connecting key areas such as Bandra and the Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone (SEEPZ). As per a report by Times Property, the underground line will have 27 stations, significantly improving connectivity across Mumbai. Here is a list of the stations on the Aqua Line:

How Will It Benefit Commuters?

The Aqua Line is expected to deliver numerous benefits to Mumbai's commuters:

1. Reduced Traffic Congestion: By providing a faster and more convenient alternative to road travel, the Aqua Line is anticipated to alleviate traffic congestion on Mumbai's crowded streets.

2. Enhanced Connectivity: Spanning 27 stations, the Aqua Line will connect various neighbourhoods across the city, improving overall accessibility.

3. Faster Travel Times: The underground route will significantly cut travel times compared to surface commutes, allowing passengers to reach their destinations more quickly.

4. Improved Passenger Experience: With air-conditioned coaches and modern infrastructure, the Aqua Line promises a more comfortable and enjoyable travel experience.

5. Increased Capacity: The Aqua Line will handle up to 1.7 million passengers daily, with each train accommodating 3,000 passengers, addressing the high demand for public transport in Mumbai.

Project Details

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MMRCL) has led the development of this ambitious project, which comes with an estimated cost of Rs 37,276 crore. A significant portion of the funding, Rs 21,280 crore, has been provided through a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Project Status

The project is nearing completion, with 99.2 per cent of civil work and 97 per cent of station construction finalised. Tunnelling is complete, and system installations are 77.6 per cent finished. Depot construction is nearly complete at 99.8 per cent, and track laying is 87 per cent done.

The Aqua Line project, which has been in development for several years, marks a significant milestone in Mumbai's infrastructure advancement. Following the successful completion of rolling stock trials by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) in June, the project is set to launch soon, promising a transformative impact on Mumbai's public transportation system.
