Mumbai-Pune Expressway Update: Toll Hike Confirmed, Non-FASTag Vehicles To Pay Double – Check New Rates
Motorists travelling on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will have to pay higher toll charges from April 1. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has announced an increase in toll rates, making travel on this route more expensive, according to a Times Now report.
Mumbai-Pune Expressway: Toll Hike
The toll for four-wheelers on a one-way journey will rise by Rs 5. Additionally, an extra charge of Rs 10 will apply for four-wheelers on the return journey. Officials have confirmed that other types of vehicles will see an average increase of Rs 15 to Rs 20 in toll charges.
Eastern Expressway: Toll Hike
Not only the Mumbai-Pune Expressway but the Eastern Expressway toll rates will also be revised. A three per cent hike will be applied to toll rates on this route, adding to the financial burden on daily commuters.
FASTag To Become Mandatory
The High Court has dismissed a petition challenging the mandatory use of FASTag. From April 1, FASTag will be compulsory at all toll plazas in Maharashtra. Vehicles without a FASTag will be required to pay double the toll amount.
Although FASTag is already mandated by the central government, some drivers continue to avoid its usage. The stricter enforcement aims to ease congestion at toll plazas and encourage digital payments.

Penalty For Non-FASTag Vehicles
From April 2025, any vehicle without a FASTag will be charged twice the toll amount. For example, if the toll fee for a four-wheeler is Rs 200, a vehicle without a FASTag will have to pay Rs 400.
