Mumbai-Pune Expressway Toll Update: Plan Ahead For Extra Charges During Peak Hours; Details Inside

Starting Monday, vehicle owners heading towards Pune on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will need to plan ahead, as they will face a slight toll hike during a specific period. For the next three days, from 12 noon to 3 pm, drivers will have to pay an additional Rs 10 due to a temporary diversion, according to Marathi India Times.

During this time, vehicles will be diverted off the expressway and directed towards National Highway 48 (the old Mumbai-Pune Highway) at Varsoli. A toll plaza is located on this highway at Varsoli, where four-wheelers will be charged Rs 90.

Normally, when travelling from Mumbai towards Pune on the expressway, drivers pay Rs 240 at the Khalapur toll plaza and an additional Rs 80 for the stretch leading into Pune, totalling Rs 320. However, due to the diversion, drivers will now be required to pay a total of Rs 330 during the specified period. This increased toll charge will be applicable only between 12 pm and 3 pm for the next three days.

About Mumbai-Pune Expressway

The Mumbai-Pune Expressway, inaugurated in 2002, is a six-lane, 94.5-kilometre-long motorway connecting Mumbai and Pune. It has significantly reduced travel time between the two cities, making the journey more convenient for commuters. The expressway is managed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and is not part of the National Highway 48 network. Toll charges are collected at five toll plazas along the expressway, with Khalapur and Talegaon being the main ones. Approximately 1.5 lakh vehicles use the expressway daily, as per an Indian Express report.

In April 2023, the MSRDC implemented an 18 per cent increase in toll charges, affecting various vehicle categories. For instance, the toll for four-wheelers increased from Rs 270 to Rs 320, according to Jagran.

Motorists are advised to plan their travel accordingly to avoid any inconvenience. For assistance during the traffic block, motorists may contact the Mumbai-Pune Expressway Control Room at 9822498224 or the Highway Police Department at 9833498334, added Midday.
