Mumbai gangrape accused sent to judicial custody till Sept 19

Magistrate U M Padwad sent all the four culprits; Shiraz Rehman Khan, Vijay Jadhav, Kasim Bengali and Salim Ansari, to 14-day judicial custody after the Crime Branch sought the same to conduct an identification parade. Their police custody ended on Thursday.
Earlier the minor accused in the case was identified by the victim and her male friend. If the minor is indeed a juvenile, he will be sentenced to a maximum of three years in a reform home, while the others, may be sentenced to strict imprisonment upto seven years or life imprisonment.
Post the incident, teams from Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Delhi, and Gujarat Forensic Science Laboratory, had searched the crime scene at Shakti Mills Compound thoroughly for nearly three hours looking for evidence.
Once the evidence was collected, it was matched with the DNA samples that were collected from the victim, and the result was positive.
The hospital authorities at the Jaslok Hospital had earlier lauded the victim for her presence of mind.
Most of the rape victims either go home and clean themselves or head to a police station after the incident, thereby losing crucial evidence in the process. The victim, in this case had headed straight to the hospital and narrated the whole incident to the staff who then called the police.
