The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced on Saturday morning that water levels in Mumbai's seven reservoirs have reached 98.56% of their total capacity.

According to BMC data, the combined water storage in Mumbai's lakes is currently 1,426,487 million litres, which is 98.56 per cent of their full capacity.

Mumbai's water supply comes from Tulsi, Tansa, Vihar, Bhatsa, Modak Sagar, Upper Vaitarna, and Middle Vaitarna lakes.

Data shows that Tansa Lake's water level is at 98.04 per cent, while Modak Sagar is at full capacity, with 100 per cent of its water stock available. Middle Vaitarna has 98.52 per cent, Upper Vaitarna has 98.51 per cent, and Bhatsa has 98.37 per cent. Vihar and Tulsi lakes are also fully usable.

Following heavy rains, Middle Vaitarna Lake began overflowing on 4 July. Lakes Vihar and Modak Sagar started flooding on 25 July, and Tansa Lake began to overflow on 24 July at around 4 PM. On that day, the total water held by all seven reservoirs increased significantly.

Tansa Lake, located in the Shahpur area of Thane, provides about 400 million gallons of water to Mumbai and overflowed on 26 July 2024. Tulsi Lake, one of the two lakes that directly supply water to the BMC, also started overflowing on 20 July at around 8:30 AM, similar to its overflow on the same day last year at 1:28 PM.
