Mumbai Flat With Washing Machine Above Toilet Goes For Rent At Staggering Rs 1.35 Lakh/Month
Mumbai, often dubbed the "City of Dreams," has long been a destination for people with hopes of building a better future. However, the Maximum City's soaring rental prices have turned this dream into a major financial challenge for many.
In a city where land is scarce, the demand for housing has pushed rental prices to astronomical levels, leaving even seasoned Mumbaikars surprised by the creative lengths people go to in order to maximise every inch of space.

It's not uncommon in Mumbai to find small apartments commanding rents that could fetch entire mansions in smaller Indian cities. The struggle is particularly familiar to those who move to the city for higher education or job opportunities, only to be met with sky-high rent in a landscape dominated by skyscrapers.
Even so, some apartment designs still manage to raise eyebrows for their unique, space-saving approaches.
Take, for instance, a recent example shared by X user Utkarsh Gupta, who was apartment hunting in the upscale Pali Hill neighborhood.
During his search, Gupta came across a 2BHK apartment with a design so surprising that he had to post about it on social media. Sharing his disbelief on X, Gupta uploaded a photo of the apartment's bathroom, where a washing machine was installed above the commode in a small washroom.
What made the situation even more amusing was the asking rent for the apartment-an astounding Rs 1.35 lakh per month, along with Rs 4 lakh as a security deposit and Rs 1.4 lakh as brokerage fees.
Gupta humorously captioned the photo, saying, "Only in Mumbai, you can front load your washing machine while top loading your commode.
At an affordable price of 1.35L per month!" The post quickly garnered attention, with many users responding with laughing emojis. One commenter quipped, "Everything is fair in Pali Hill."
The apartment, listed on Housing.com, is situated on the fourth floor of an eight-storey building and spans 850 square feet. It boasts two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and no balconies.
Despite its unusual bathroom setup, it is fully furnished, and according to a Housing.com analysis, the rent of Rs 1.35 lakh is typical for apartments of this size in the Bandra area, even being advertised as offering "affordable rent in Mumbai."
The story perfectly encapsulates the ongoing rent crisis in Mumbai, where the competition for limited space has led to innovative, sometimes quirky solutions, all while keeping prices well out of reach for many.
