Maharashtra Moving Forward With Visible Development Under CM Eknath Shinde's Leadership

On March 3, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde laid the foundation stone for Metro Line-12, connecting Kalyan to Taloja in Navi Mumbai.

Subsequently, the metro has also been expanded to Thane, Pune, and Nagpur. During the Mahayuti government's tenure, the dream of bringing a bullet train to Maharashtra has come true.

The metro network is expanding rapidly. Maharashtra is making great strides in infrastructure and economic development. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region is progressing continuously. An extensive metro network enhances city travel, saving time, money, and fuel-concepts Chief Minister Eknath Shinde seems to have embraced wholeheartedly.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project Underway

Work on the 508-kilometre-long bullet train project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad is currently in progress. Infrastructure is being developed for this project in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Daman and Diu. This ambitious central government project will include eight stations in Gujarat and four in Maharashtra, located at the Bandra-Kurla Complex, Thane, Virar, and Boisar.

Chief Minister Shinde has personally overseen the project, which is expected to boost Mumbai's development. Boisar, the largest industrial suburb within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, will soon be connected to the under-construction Boisar bullet train station, fostering growth. With the launch of the bullet train, the travel time between Bandra-Kurla Complex and Boisar will be reduced to just 36 minutes.

Chief Minister's Direct Oversight of the Bullet Train

For the nation's first bullet train, a 21-kilometre underwater tunnel is being built from Bandra-Kurla Complex to Shilphata. Of the total, 16 kilometres of this tunnel will be constructed using tunnel boring machines, while the remaining 5 kilometres will use the NATM method. This includes a 7-kilometre stretch under Thane Creek. Chief Minister Shinde is closely monitoring all these works, as this underwater tunnel is India's first, drawing worldwide attention.

Metro Masterplan by the Chief Minister

Before 2014, metro rail was only available in five cities across India. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, metro services have been extended to 21 cities, including Mumbai, Nagpur, and Pune in Maharashtra. During the Mahayuti government, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has laid out plans to expand these three metro cities. Before the model code of conduct was implemented, the central government approved a new 29-kilometre metro line in Thane, which will feature 22 stations and connect the western parts of the city. This network will extend between the Ulhas River on one side and Sanjay Gandhi National Park on the other, with an estimated cost of ₹12,200 crore.

Pune's Metro Network to Expand Further

In Pune, the metro will soon operate on a new route approved by the Union Cabinet, with an estimated cost of ₹2,954.53 crore. This will be an extension of the Pune Metro Phase 1 project, covering a length of 5.46 kilometres and including three underground stations. Key areas like Market Yard, Bibwewadi, Balaji Nagar, and Katraj will be connected by this metro line, providing an effective solution to traffic congestion. Since taking office, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has prioritised expanding the metro network to ease daily commuting for residents in Mumbai, Thane, Pune, and Nagpur.

The Chief Minister's Vision for a Developed Maharashtra

Improved roads enhance cities. With metro services, revenue increases, which fuels the state's progress. This straightforward concept drives Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's vision to increase the number of metro cities in Maharashtra during his tenure. By coordinating with the Modi government, the metro network in Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur has been expanded further.

In the future, cities like Sambhajinagar and Nashik may also receive metro services. A well-developed metro network helps alleviate road traffic and reduces congestion, which is why the Mahayuti government has championed this concept for urban development. If the Mahayuti government is re-elected, it wouldn't be surprising to see a metro network in at least 10-15 cities across Maharashtra in the coming years.
