The trio is known for diligently completing projects that serve the state's interests while mobilising resources efficiently. Their collaborative efforts have led to the swift execution of various initiatives, reflecting the state's recent experience under their leadership. The Shinde government has prioritized infrastructure projects aimed at fostering economic growth and creating significant employment opportunities, benefiting both the state and its residents.

Maharashtra Govt Fast-Tracks Mumbai Infrastructure Projects to Boost Economic Growth

As India's financial capital, Mumbai is a rapidly expanding metropolis that attracts millions seeking to fulfill their dreams. The city has seen extensive growth across its railway networks, with the Western Railway extending to Dahanu, the Central Railway reaching Karjat-Khopoli, and the Harbour Railway line expanding to Panvel.

In light of this rapid expansion, there is an urgent need for enhanced infrastructure to support the city's development and ensure efficient transportation for its inhabitants. The Eknath Shinde-led government has recognized this need and is fast-tracking infrastructure development in the Mumbai metropolitan region, including areas governed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The transformation of Mumbai has become increasingly visible over the past two years, with the metro system playing a pivotal role in improving internal transportation.

Mumbai Metro Line 2A Completed

One of the significant achievements during Shinde's tenure is the completion of Mumbai Metro Line 2A, which stretches approximately 18 kilometers and includes 17 stations. This line, running between Dahisar and DN Nagar, serves over 125,000 commuters daily. With an investment of ₹6,410 crores, the project has notably benefited residents of the western suburbs. Additionally, Mumbai Metro Line 7 connects Andheri East to Dahisar East, covering 16 kilometers and comprising 13 stations, with around 75,000 passengers utilizing this line each day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the second phase of both routes on January 19, 2023, resulting in a 50% to 75% reduction in travel times for commuters in the western suburbs.

Completion of Metro Line 3 Delayed

The Mumbai Metro Line 3 project, which began under Devendra Fadnavis's leadership, encountered delays attributed to the inefficiencies of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government, particularly during Uddhav and Aaditya Thackeray's tenure. Initially estimated at ₹23,000 crores, the project's budget soared to ₹37,000 crores due to mismanagement.

Since assuming office in 2022, the Eknath Shinde government has made significant strides in accelerating the progress of Metro Line 3. The first phase, connecting Aarey Colony to BKC, has recently been inaugurated, with the project expected to be fully operational by December 2024. The new line, featuring clean and spacious stations, is already serving thousands of passengers and is anticipated to ease traffic congestion and reduce pollution in the city.

"Had the Maha Vikas Aghadi government not obstructed progress, Metro Line 3 would have been operational at full capacity by 2023. The increased costs of this project have resulted in a loss for the state. If the Maha Vikas Aghadi had not caused this loss, we could have provided ₹3,000 under the beloved sister scheme," Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated recently.

Bullet Train Project

The previous government imposed numerous hurdles on significant projects, including the crucial Ahmedabad-Mumbai Bullet Train project, which has a budget of ₹1.08 lakh crores. However, upon regaining power, the Maha Yuti government, led by Eknath Shinde, swiftly removed administrative obstacles hindering this initiative and expedited the land acquisition process. The project is anticipated to be fully operational by 2028, with the first bullet train scheduled to run between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
