Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024: Mahayuti Vs Maha Vikas Aghadi – Who Has The Best Job Creation Plan?

As Maharashtra prepares for the Legislative Assembly elections on November 20, unemployment is emerging as a key issue for voters, as reported by the quint. A pre-poll survey by MIT-SOG-Lokniti-CSDS revealed that one in four voters see unemployment as their top concern. Both the BJP-led Mahayuti and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) have acknowledged the challenge, promising to tackle joblessness if they win.

Job Creation Promises

Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024

The Mahayuti alliance, consisting of Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, Ajit Pawar's NCP, and the BJP, has pledged to create 25 lakh jobs, although no specific timeline was provided. In contrast, the MVA, made up of Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena, Sharad Pawar's NCP, and Congress, has promised to generate 12.5 lakh jobs over the next five years. The MVA also aims to reserve jobs for Agniveers, young soldiers returning after their service, and increase manual work through MGNREGA.

Government Job Vacancies

Regarding government jobs, the Mahayuti government plans to fill one lakh vacant posts and launch the 'Mahabharti Abhiyan' to recruit teachers. The MVA has committed to initiating recruitment for 2.5 lakh government positions within 100 days if it comes to power. It also plans to introduce reservations for LGBTQIA+ individuals in government jobs.

Support For Unemployed Students

For unemployed students, the Mahayuti has promised a monthly stipend of Rs 10,000 for 10 lakh students, along with an internship scheme offering stipends for graduates, ITI holders, and diploma holders. Meanwhile, the MVA aims to provide up to Rs 4,000 per month to unemployed graduates and diploma holders.

Women's Welfare Initiatives

Both alliances have put forward plans for women's welfare. The Mahayuti has promised increased financial support for women, including a higher allowance under the Ladki Bahin Yojana and a commitment to induct 25,000 women into the police force. The MVA proposes a monthly allowance of Rs 3,000 for women under the Mahalaxmi Scheme, alongside other initiatives such as equal pay laws and support for widows and single women.

Empowering Entrepreneurs

For entrepreneurship, the Mahayuti has promised to establish 'Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Akanksha Kendras' to foster 10 lakh new entrepreneurs, including support for SC, ST, and OBC communities through interest-free loans. The MVA, in turn, has committed to grants for OBC, SC, ST, and VJNT communities, along with the establishment of industrial zones for women entrepreneurs.

MSMEs, Startups, And Gig Workers

Both blocs have outlined strategies for supporting MSMEs, startups, and gig workers. The Mahayuti aims to promote innovation through collaborative overseas placement schemes, while the MVA proposes an 'Empower Maharashtra Startup Initiative' to fund innovative ventures. Additionally, the MVA promises social security for gig and informal workers, including those in construction, domestic help, and other unorganised sectors.

Infrastructure Projects To Create Jobs

Lastly, both alliances propose major infrastructure projects to create jobs. The Mahayuti has promised significant employment opportunities linked to the Vidarbha-Marathwada Defence Corridor, while the MVA plans food processing and textile mills in cotton-growing areas. Both also aim to streamline MPSC exam procedures, with the MVA pledging a new unified smart card system for candidates.

As the election draws closer, job creation and employment issues are clearly top priorities for both political blocs. Voters will be watching closely to see how these promises translate into real change for Maharashtra's workforce.
