Ganeshotsav Ahead: Mumbai Municipality Accelerates Pothole Repairs For Smooth Celebrations

As the celebrations of Ganeshotsav kick off in Mumbai, the arrival of Ganesha idols has brought to light a pressing issue: the city's pothole-riddled roads. To address this, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation is launching a special campaign to fill in the potholes before the festivities reach their peak.

The Additional Commissioner of Municipal Corporation, Abhijit Bangar, announced that the municipality will undertake a focused campaign to repair potholes, ensuring that the arrival and immersion of Ganesh idols are not hindered by road conditions. This initiative is set to begin after August 15, with a strategic meeting planned to discuss the campaign's logistics.

Mumbai's roads, already troubled by monsoon-related potholes, have seen an increase in complaints this year. Between June 1 and August 8, over 14,000 complaints were filed across 25 wards. The presence of these potholes has not only caused traffic disruptions but also raised concerns about the potential for increased problems during Ganeshotsav.

In response, the municipal administration is stepping up its efforts. With the rains subsiding, engineers will now be able to work more efficiently to fill the potholes. The campaign will involve a thorough survey of the roads, with repairs focused on areas with the most severe damage. The aim is to provide a smooth and safe passage for the Ganesha processions.

Abhijit Bangar emphasised the importance of this campaign, stating, "There is no doubt that Mumbai's roads should be pothole-free. This special campaign aims to address all potholes created during the monsoon season before the arrival of Ganesha. We will pay particular attention to the routes used for Ganesha's arrival and immersion."

In the lead-up to this campaign, the Brihanmumbai Public Ganeshotsav Coordinating Committee has communicated with municipal authorities, highlighting the pothole issues on key routes. They have urged for swift action to mitigate the problem, noting that while some repairs have been completed, many roads still exhibit uneven surfaces.
