Buying Property In Maharashtra? Now Register It Online From Anywhere

Maharashtra will introduce a fully online property registration system from May 1, allowing buyers and sellers to complete transactions without visiting sub-registrar offices, as per a Hindustan Times report. Under the 'One State, One Registration' initiative, people can pay stamp duty and obtain e-stamp certificates online, making the process simpler and more efficient.

A New Era In Property Registration

State Revenue Minister Chandrasekhar Bawankule announced the move on Thursday, stating that starting from May 1-Maharashtra's foundation day-property registration can be done from anywhere in the state.

"For instance, if someone buys a home in Nagpur or Pune, they can register it from Mumbai or any other city. The process will be completed using Aadhaar and Income Tax documents," the minister explained.

The online property registration system was first introduced in Mumbai as a pilot project. Following its success, it is now being expanded across all 519 sub-registrar offices in Maharashtra. The revenue department is collaborating with the National Informatics Centre (NIC) to enhance digital systems and ensure a smooth transition to online services.

Disadvantages Of Paper-Based Registration

The shift to digital property registration aims to eliminate several challenges associated with paper-based processes. Traditionally, buyers and sellers had to visit sub-registrar offices, leading to long queues, paperwork errors, and potential delays. The physical process also increased the risk of fraudulent transactions, as forged documents and manual errors were common concerns.

Additionally, paper-based procedures often required multiple visits for corrections, causing unnecessary delays. The introduction of an online system will streamline the process, reducing paperwork, saving time, and minimising errors.

New System For Stamp Duty Payments

As part of the digital upgrade, a new 'Leave and Licenses 2.0' system will be introduced. This will enable users to pay stamp duty online without complications, making the process more transparent and accessible to all citizens.

With this initiative, Maharashtra is set to become a leader in digital property registration, providing greater convenience and security for homebuyers across the state.
