Villagers stranded amidst heavy floods in Uttar Pradesh

As a result of the heavy rainfall, close to 4 lakh people in UP have been cutoff from the mainland and are stranded in their villages.
Rivers Ghagra, Sharda, Rapti and their tributaries continue to swell due to the heavy rainfall in the state. News reports also suggest that so far six people have lost their lives.
An alert has been sounded Bahraich district, one of the worst affected districts. Many villages have been inundated after water from the river Ghagra entered the homes of the people, affecting close to 2 lakh people.
Officials say that relief measures provided by the Bairach administration have proved to be of no help. There is a shortage of boats to transport the villagers to the mainland or even the state's capital.
