The Doodle was created by London-based artist and musician Will Sweeney. It showcased a vibrant animation reflecting Sophie's experimental style. The animation included abstract shapes and patterns that moved to the rhythm of her music. It also featured elements from her iconic music videos, like the neon colours from "It's Okay to Cry."

Sophie Xeon, born Samuel Long in 1986, was a Scottish musician, producer, and DJ. She gained fame in the early 2010s for her innovative approach to electronic music. Her work blended pop, techno, and experimental sounds. Her music often explored themes of identity, gender, and sexuality.

Her debut album, "Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides," released in 2018, received critical acclaim. Tracks like "Faceshopping" and "Immaterial" showcased her signature sound. Throughout her career, Sophie collaborated with artists like Charli XCX, Madonna, and Arca.

She was also known for her live performances, which were immersive and visually stunning. Her untimely death in 2021 was a significant loss to the music world. However, her legacy continues to inspire artists and fans alike.

The Google Doodle tribute serves as a reminder of Sophie's immense talent and lasting impact on the music industry. Through her innovative approach to music and fearless exploration of identity, she pushed the boundaries of electronic music.

Special thanks to Sophie Xeon's family for their collaboration on this project. They shared their thoughts on Sophie's legacy: Music and the future were always central to Sophie's world. From a young age, she attended music festivals and raves. She was influenced by artists like Orbital, Moby, the Prodigy, Pet Shop Boys, and Kraftwerk.

These early influences continued to inspire Sophie throughout her life and career. As a teenager, she focused on her own experiments in music making. Drawn to synthesis, she spent years honing her skills to create unique sounds.

In the 2010s, Sophie aimed to create something new and futuristic while maintaining energy and fun in dance music. These experiments led to her seminal collection of singles 'PRODUCT.' While touring and producing pop music for others, Sophie developed ideas for her next era.

With the 'It's Okay to Cry' video, she introduced a more performative element. Her album "Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides" let us into her world more deeply. The follow-up album "SOPHIE" maintained her ambitious outlook while being more accessible.

Made with her brother and close friends, the album felt like a mix between a live show in the clouds and a massive party in her studio. The future has always been important to Sophie. Her influence will continue to shape the future of music.
