Today's Google Doodle honours Krishnakumar Kunnath, known as KK, a beloved Indian playback singer. Born on August 23, 1968, in Delhi, KK's soulful voice and romantic songs made him a star. He began his journey with the reality show "Awaaz India" in 1995.

Music director A.R. Rahman noticed KK's talent and gave him his first break in the film "Kadhal Desam" (1996). This marked the start of his successful career. KK sang in many languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Bengali.

His unique voice conveyed deep emotions, making him perfect for romantic songs. Known as the "King of Romance," KK's hits include "Tadap Tadap Ke" from "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" (1999) and "Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai" from "Gangster" (2006).

KK also released pop albums like "Pal" (1999) and "Humsafar" (2008), showcasing his versatility. He received many awards, including the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer for "Tadap Tadap Ke."

KK performed live concerts that captivated audiences with his powerful voice. Sadly, he passed away on May 31, 2022, leaving a void in the music world. His legacy lives on through his timeless music.

On this day in 1996, KK debuted as a playback singer with "Chhod Aaye Hum" in the movie "Maachis." Born in Delhi, he attended Kirori Mal College and worked in marketing before pursuing music full-time.

In 1994, KK submitted a demo tape to popular artists and began performing commercial jingles. His Hindi cinema playback debut came in 1999 with "Tadap Tadap" from "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam."

His first album "Pal" was released that year and became a massive hit. Over the years, KK sang over 500 songs in Hindi and more than 200 in other languages like Telugu and Bengali.

KK received six Filmfare Award nominations and two Star Screen Awards among other accolades. He is celebrated as one of India's most talented playback singers.

A statue was erected in Kolkata to honour KK's legacy and impact on music. This city hosted his last concert before his untimely passing.
