Kolkata Police Arrest 9 For RG Kar Hospital Violence Where Doctor Was Raped-Murdered
A mob vandalised the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata early Thursday morning. Nine people have been arrested following the incident, which occurred during a protest against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the institution last week.
Women in Kolkata and other parts of India organised a vigil on Wednesday night, calling it 'women, reclaim the night'.

The vigil began around 11 pm, and some participants entered the hospital premises, causing major damage.
Vehicles were attacked, public property was destroyed, and police had to use lathicharge and teargas to control the situation. 15 policemen were injured during the chaos.
Police Response
On Thursday morning, police released photos of individuals believed to be part of the mob that vandalised the hospital. These images were shared on social media with faces circled for identification.
Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose visited the hospital on Thursday to assure doctors and medical students of his support. He addressed their concerns about feeling insecure after the recent violence and killing.
"I am with you. We will fight it out and not allow these ghastly things. We will take positive action which will be exemplary for others," he told them.
Investigation Progress
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the investigation into the rape and murder on Tuesday.
A CBI team has met with the family of the deceased trainee doctor.
Her body was discovered last Friday, with an autopsy revealing multiple injuries inflicted before she was smothered to death between 3 and 5 am.
The police had previously arrested Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer now in CBI custody. The trainee doctor's parents informed the Calcutta High Court that 150 mg of semen was found in her body, suggesting gang rape.
They slammed authorities for not arresting other suspects despite evidence indicating multiple offenders.
Amidst claims on social media that the seminar hall where the trainee doctor was raped and murdered was also vandalised by the mob, Kolkata Police clarified that no such incident occurred.
"Crime scene is Seminar Room and it has not been touched. Don't spread unverified news," they warned in a post on X.
