Originally from Ludhiana, India, Gursimran and her mother had moved from the United Kingdom to Canada three years ago, working at Walmart for two years. Known for her bright personality and future aspirations, Gursimran was a beloved figure within her community. In response to her sudden passing, the Maritime Sikh Society initiated a GoFundMe campaign to support her family. The campaign rapidly exceeded its goal of $36,000, raising over $66,000 to help cover funeral costs and travel expenses for her father and brother in India.

The news of Gursimran's death has devastated Halifax's close-knit community. Members of the Maritime Sikh Society, where Gursimran and her mother regularly attended services, expressed their heartbreak over her tragic loss. Harjit Singh Seyan, president of the society, described the loss as "unbearable" and thanked the community for its overwhelming support. Flowers, candles, and personal tributes have been placed at the Walmart location, as friends, family, and community members gather to honor her memory.

Halifax Regional Police are actively investigating the circumstances of Gursimran's death, working alongside Occupational Health and Safety and the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service. Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation, as they continue to assess the complex situation. Police confirmed they received a "sudden death" call at around 9:30 PM on October 19. Following the incident, Walmart temporarily closed the store to allow investigators full access and to provide support for grieving employees. A spokesperson for Walmart expressed sorrow over the tragedy, emphasizing the company's commitment to aiding their associates through this challenging time.

In honor of Gursimran Kaur, a vigil was held outside the Walmart where she worked. Community members gathered to share their memories, pray for her family, and lay flowers.
