WATCH Viral Video Of Dubai Floods: Luxury Malls Submerged In Water As Rain Hits City

Dubai encountered an unusually heavy rainfall on Tuesday, which resulted in the city being brought to a standstill. The city received an extraordinary amount of rain equivalent to over a year and a half's worth of precipitation within a single day. Concurrently, heavy thunderstorms affected other parts of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The flagship shopping centres, Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates, experienced flooding due to the heavy downpour. Images posted on social media showed water levels reaching ankle-deep in at least one Dubai Metro station.

In viral videos circulating online, workers were seen removing water from luxury stores like Chanel and Fendi inside a mall affected by the flooding. Another video captured water crashing into the showroom of the Danish variety store chain Flying Tiger, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Overall, the unprecedented rainfall caused significant disruptions and damage across Dubai, highlighting the challenges posed by such extreme weather events in the desert city.

    Due to flooding at Dubai International Airport, one of the world's busiest air hubs, many flights were diverted on Tuesday. The airport briefly stopped operations in the evening.

    Schools across the UAE are closed on Tuesday and Wednesday due to the bad weather. The Dubai government has instructed its employees to work from home on Wednesday. A viral video also showed a flooded metro station in the city.

    Social media was flooded with videos and pictures of the deluge in Dubai. A significant traffic jam was observed on the flagship Sheikh Zayed Road, connecting Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Dubai received 5.59 inches of rainfall on Tuesday, exceeding the city's annual average rainfall of 3.73 inches, as reported by Hindustan Times.

    The storms and torrential rain affected the UAE, Bahrain, and parts of Qatar after striking Oman, where they caused deadly floods and left dozens stranded. In Oman, which neighbours the UAE, 18 people lost their lives due to heavy rain.
