US Reaffirms Support for PM Modi, Stands with India After Pahalgam Terror Attack
In the aftermath of the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, the United States has reiterated its unwavering support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed solidarity with India in its fight against terrorism.
US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce addressed the matter during a press briefing on Friday, affirming Washington's continued diplomatic engagement with both India and Pakistan amid rising regional tensions.

Bruce confirmed that the Trump administration remains in close contact with both governments following the recent escalation. "We are monitoring the situation closely. Yesterday, the Secretary spoke with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. As President Donald Trump conveyed to Prime Minister Modi last week, the United States stands firmly with India against terrorism and fully supports Prime Minister Modi," Bruce stated.
She also referenced a readout of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's conversations on Thursday with top leaders in New Delhi and Islamabad, emphasizing the US's ongoing commitment to South Asian regional stability and diplomacy.
The brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, which occurred on April 22 and claimed the lives of 26 people-mostly tourists-has drawn international condemnation. The United States has emerged as one of India's most vocal allies amid mounting global concern over cross-border terrorism.
US Urges Peaceful Resolution Between India and Pakistan
"The Secretary encouraged both countries to work toward a peaceful, responsible resolution that ensures long-term peace and stability in the region. We remain in communication with both governments at multiple levels," Bruce added.
When asked if calls for de-escalation were making progress, Bruce responded, "We are urging a responsible resolution from both parties. Beyond that, I don't have additional details to share."
The US statement comes as tensions rise along the Line of Control (LoC), with a spike in ceasefire violations by Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack, which was carried out by Pakistan-backed terrorists.
In response, India has taken a series of diplomatic and strategic steps, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, shutting down the Integrated Check Post at Attari, and announcing plans to reduce the strength of diplomatic missions between the two nations.
Meanwhile, the Indian government has granted the armed forces complete operational freedom to determine the appropriate response to the attack. The Indian Army has already retaliated effectively to unprovoked firing by the Pakistan Army along the LoC.
