Trump Imposes 10- To 12-Day Deadline For Russia To Cease Military Actions In Ukraine
United States President Donald Trump has expressed his dissatisfaction with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Trump has now set a new deadline of 10 to 12 days for Russia to cease its military actions, reducing the original 50-day timeline he had established earlier this month. This change highlights his growing frustration with the lack of progress.
During a meeting in Scotland with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump stated, "I'm going to make a new deadline of about … 10 or 12 days from today." He emphasized that waiting longer was unnecessary as no progress was evident. The Kremlin has not yet responded to these remarks.

US Sanctions and Tariffs
The US president has consistently voiced his displeasure with Putin's continued aggression towards Ukraine, despite American efforts to resolve the situation. Trump has warned of potential sanctions on Russia and those purchasing its exports if there is no advancement in peace talks. He remarked, "There's no reason to wait. If you know what the answer is going to be, why wait? And it would be sanctions and maybe tariffs, secondary tariffs."
Trump, who sees himself as a peacemaker, had previously vowed to end the three-and-a-half-year-old conflict within 24 hours before returning for a second term in January. However, he has not always followed through on his stern rhetoric against Putin due to what he describes as a historically good relationship between them.
Challenges in Diplomacy
Despite Trump's tough stance on Russia, he has also shown irritation towards Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The US president mentioned past instances where they believed resolutions were reached, only for Putin to resume attacks on Ukrainian cities like Kyiv. "We thought we had that settled numerous times," Trump said.
Trump's comments reflect his desire for a swift resolution but also reveal the complexities of international diplomacy. His approach involves balancing firm measures like sanctions while maintaining diplomatic ties with Russia. The situation remains tense as the world watches for any developments within the newly set timeframe.
The ongoing conflict in Ukraine continues to challenge global leaders as they seek effective solutions. Trump's recent statements underscore the urgency and complexity of achieving peace in the region while navigating international relations and economic implications.
