Trump's Cabinet Selections Under Scrutiny for Sexual Misconduct Allegations
President-elect Donald Trump has selected several individuals for his Cabinet and key staff roles who have faced accusations of sexual misconduct. Trump himself has been accused of mistreating women, including a case where he was found liable for sexual abuse and defamation against E. Jean Carroll. He was ordered to pay her USD 83 million in damages. Trump and his nominees have denied these allegations, often attributing them to political motives.

In a notable case, jurors in New York found Trump liable for sexually abusing Carroll, an advice columnist, in 1996. Although the jury rejected the rape claim, they held him accountable for a lesser degree of sexual abuse and defamation. Trump did not attend the trial or the verdict reading. Carroll's allegations were made public in a 2019 memoir, which Trump dismissed as fabricated.
Allegations Against Trump's Nominees
Pete Hegseth, nominated for Secretary of Defence, was accused by a woman of sexual assault in 2017. She claimed he blocked her from leaving a California hotel room after taking her phone. Hegseth denied any wrongdoing, asserting the encounter was consensual. His lawyer stated that police found the allegations false, leading to no charges being filed.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., nominated for Secretary of Health and Human Services, faced accusations from a former babysitter who claimed he groped her in the late 1990s. Kennedy did not deny the incident, describing his past as "rambunctious." He later apologised to the woman via text after the story emerged.
Linda McMahon, Trump's pick for Secretary of Education, is involved in a lawsuit alleging she enabled child exploitation by a WWE employee during the 1980s. The lawsuit claims Melvin Phillips abused young men hired as "ring boys." McMahon denies these allegations, with her lawyer stating that previous investigations found no grounds to proceed.
Elon Musk and Matt Gaetz Allegations
Elon Musk, chosen to lead the new Department of Government Efficiency, was accused by a SpaceX flight attendant of sexual misconduct in 2016. Musk denied these claims. A report indicated SpaceX paid USD 250,000 to settle with the woman under a non-disclosure agreement. Musk responded on Twitter, calling the accusations false.
Matt Gaetz withdrew from consideration for Attorney General amid a Justice Department sex trafficking investigation. Although no federal charges were filed against him, Gaetz faced scrutiny over alleged misconduct involving underage girls. He resigned from Congress and denied any wrongdoing throughout the investigation.
The allegations surrounding Trump's nominees highlight ongoing controversies as he prepares for his second administration. Each individual involved has denied their respective accusations, maintaining their innocence amid public scrutiny.
