In Faridabad's Panchsheel Colony, 23-year-old pregnant Neha Kumari was allegedly murdered by her husband Amit Gupta, who routinely confined her daily due to infidelity suspicions before reportedly drowning her.

Police Reveal Disturbing Pattern of Confinement

According to the police investigation, the accused, Amit Gupta, 26, used to leave for his job as a graphic designer in Lajpat Nagar, Delhi, between 8.30 am and 9 am and returned home around 7 pm. During this period, he allegedly locked the main door from the outside, leaving his wife, Neha Kumari, confined inside the house for nearly 10 hours every day.

Investigators said Gupta had been following this routine until last week, when he reportedly stopped going to the office.

"Family members disclosed that he had recently started locking the main door from outside while leaving to ensure that neither his wife could venture out nor anyone could come in to meet her due to his suspicion. She had shared this development with her family members but never resisted," a senior police officer involved in the investigation said on condition of anonymity.

Neighbours Corroborate Family's Claims

Police said neighbours also confirmed that Neha, who was six months pregnant, remained locked inside the couple's newly constructed house on a regular basis. Investigators added that Gupta allegedly did not allow her to step out alone, even for routine errands such as visiting the local market.

"Neighbours had also corroborated that Neha, who was six months pregnant, used to remain locked inside their newly built house. He didn't even allow his wife to visit the market alone," the officer added.

According to investigators, Gupta allegedly suspected his wife of having an extramarital affair, which police believe led to increasing restrictions on her movements before the fatal incident.

Husband Accused of Drowning Wife

Police said Amit Gupta allegedly forced Neha's head into a bucket filled with water before escaping from the house. He has been absconding since the incident, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest him.

Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and record statements from family members and neighbours as part of the ongoing probe.

Autopsy Conducted, Detailed Report Awaited

Faridabad Police Public Relations Officer Yashpal Yadav said Neha's father had purchased the land on which the house was built but registered it in Gupta's name under pressure. The father also financed the construction of the couple's home.

Yadav further said a medical board carried out the post-mortem examination on Saturday. The detailed autopsy report is awaited and is expected to provide further clarity in the investigation.
