Russias Lavrov in Caracas: Unwavering Support for Maduros Venezuela
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrovs visit to Caracas underscores Russias steadfast support for President Nicolás Maduros government. Discussions during his visit centered on bolstering cooperation in technology, energy, and cultural sectors.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov's recent visit to Venezuela underscored Russia's unwavering support for the administration of President Nicolás Maduro. During his hours-long visit to Caracas, Lavrov met with Vice President Delcy Rodriguez and Foreign Minister Yván Gil, reaffirming Russia's commitment to strategic cooperation in various sectors, including technology, energy, and culture.

Backing Maduro's Government
Lavrov's visit comes at a crucial time as Venezuela's government and a U.S.-backed faction of the opposition engage in negotiations to level the playing field ahead of this year's presidential election. Russia has consistently backed the Venezuelan government throughout the challenging negotiation process, which commenced in 2021 under the guidance of Norwegian diplomats.
Defying Sanctions with Russian and Chinese Support
The unwavering support of Russia and China has enabled Venezuela to mitigate the impact of crippling economic sanctions, primarily imposed by the United States. Lavrov reiterated Russia's unwavering support for Maduro's representatives in the negotiations, emphasizing that it "remains in force." This visit to Caracas, his second in less than a year, followed a stop in Cuba and is part of a three-country tour of Latin America, with Brazil being the final destination for a meeting of the Group of 20 foreign ministers.
Expanding Cooperation and Defying Coercive Measures
Foreign Minister Gil highlighted ongoing discussions with Russia to increase the number of flights between the two countries operated by Venezuela's state-owned airline. Additionally, plans are underway to establish an insulin production plant equipped with Russian technology. Gil emphasized that Venezuela and Russia, both victims of illegal and illegitimate unilateral coercive measures on the international stage, have forged a close and functional relationship that yields tangible results for their people.
Russia's unwavering support for Venezuela, coupled with China's backing, has allowed the South American nation to navigate economic challenges posed by international sanctions. As negotiations continue to shape the political landscape ahead of the presidential election, Russia's commitment to strategic cooperation with Venezuela signals a deepening partnership in various sectors, further solidifying their alliance.
