PM Modi Concludes Productive Brazil Visit and Departing for Guyana

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on the final leg of his three-nation tour, heading to Guyana after attending the G20 Summit in Brazil. During the summit, he engaged with global leaders, including US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Modi's visit to Guyana marks the first by an Indian prime minister in over five decades.

PM Modi Leaves Brazil for Guyana

In Brazil, Modi was warmly received by the Indian community with Sanskrit chants and cultural performances. He briefly interacted with Biden on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, marking their first meeting since the US presidential election. During a session at the summit, Modi emphasised India's G20 theme of "One Earth, One Family, One Future," highlighting its relevance amid global challenges.

Global South and Food Security

Modi addressed the impact of global conflicts on food, fuel, and fertiliser supplies, urging the G20 to focus on these issues affecting the Global South. He highlighted India's efforts in combating hunger and poverty, noting that 250 million people have been lifted out of poverty in the past decade. Additionally, India is providing free foodgrains to 800 million citizens.

On Tuesday, Modi engaged in bilateral meetings with leaders from various countries including Brazil, Italy, Indonesia, Portugal, Norway, Chile, Argentina, Egypt, and South Korea. Discussions centred on enhancing cooperation in defence, security, trade, and technology sectors. With Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Modi reviewed bilateral ties and reaffirmed India's commitment to collaboration in energy, biofuels, defence, and agriculture.

Strengthening International Partnerships

Modi also met with Macron to discuss collaboration in space exploration, energy initiatives, and artificial intelligence. He congratulated Macron on France's successful hosting of the Olympic Games and Paralympics earlier this year. In talks with UK Prime Minister Starmer, Modi expressed eagerness to work closely in technology, green energy, security, innovation sectors. Following their meeting, Starmer announced plans to relaunch trade talks with India in the coming year.

India and Italy unveiled a strategic action plan for 2025-29 after extensive discussions between Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. This plan outlines initiatives in defence, trade, clean energy and connectivity. It identifies ten pillars for advancing bilateral engagement including economic cooperation and investments.

Renewable Energy Partnership

On Tuesday, India and Australia officially launched a Renewable Energy Partnership aimed at boosting investment in renewable energy sectors. Modi held talks with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during their second Annual Summit on the sidelines of the G20 Summit. They reiterated their commitment to advancing their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership across various areas such as defence and security.

The partnership also focuses on trade and investment education skills sports space mobility people-to-people ties. Modi's visit to Guyana is at President Mohamed Irfaan Ali's invitation and will continue until November 21.
