Pakistan to elect new prime minister on Tuesday

Shahbaz, younger brother of Sharif, named as his successor will have to first enter parliament by contesting the seat left vacant by Sharif.
President Mamnoon Hussain has summoned National Assembly, the lower house of parliament, on Tuesday at 3:00 PM to elect the new leader of the house.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), which enjoys a majority in parliament, has nominated ex-oil minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as interim prime minister.
"The nomination papers shall be delivered to the Secretary, National Assembly by 2.00 PM on Monday," said a notification by the National Assembly Secretariat, reports AFP.
The younger Sharif, who is chief minister of Punjab has been hit by the corruption allegations engulfing his brother's family.
Pakistan has seen such arrangements in the past too. During former military dictator Gen Pervez Musharraf's time, politician Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain was appointed as an interim prime minister until Shaukat Aziz, who was nominated by Musharraf, got elected by the ruling Pakistan Muslim League Quaid-e-Azam (PMLQ), reports, PTI.
