Tamil Nadu School Holiday: Schools To Remain Closed On July 28, Aug 3 In These Dists

Students in Tenkasi and Namakkal will get extra holidays over the next two weeks after district collectors declared local holidays for Aadi Thapasu and Valvil Orivizha.

The Tenkasi district administration has declared July 28, 2026 (Tuesday) as a local holiday for schools, colleges and government offices in view of the Aadi Thapasu festival at the historic Sri Sankaranarayanaswamy Temple in Sankarankovil.

However, the holiday will not apply to government examinations scheduled on July 28. Students appearing for examinations, along with teachers and officials assigned examination duties, must report as usual.

To compensate for the holiday, Saturday, August 1, 2026, has been declared a working day in Tenkasi district.

The Namakkal district administration has also declared August 3 (Monday) as a local holiday for schools, colleges and government offices to mark the annual Valvil Orivizha celebrations.

To compensate for the holiday, Saturday, August 8, 2026, will be observed as a working day in Namakkal district.

Aadi Perukku falls on the same day

This year's Valvil Orivizha coincides with Aadi Perukku, also known as Pathinettam Perukku, which falls on August 3.

Tamil Nadu school term holidays

The School Education Department has also announced the remaining term holidays for the 2026-27 academic year:

First Term: September 26 to October 4, 2026 (9 days), after the first term ends on September 25.
Second Term: December 24, 2026, to January 3, 2027 (11 days), following the conclusion of the second term on December 23.
