Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir Visits Balochistan Amid Ongoing Security Clashes and Loss of Lives
Gen Syed Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, visited Balochistan on Saturday. His visit followed recent clashes in the province that resulted in the deaths of 18 security personnel and 23 terrorists within a day, as reported by the media. The army chief received a detailed briefing on the current security situation from senior security and intelligence officials, according to the Associated Press of Pakistan.

During his visit, Gen Munir, along with Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti and Governor Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, attended the funeral prayers for the fallen soldiers. They also visited injured soldiers at the Combined Military Hospital in Quetta, as per Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of Pakistan's military. "No matter what these so-called ‘frenemies’ may do, you will surely be defeated by the resilience of our proud nation and its armed forces," Gen Munir stated.
Security Operations in Balochistan
In recent operations across Balochistan, 23 terrorists were killed over 24 hours. The military reported that these operations took place in various troubled areas of the province. In Harnai district on Saturday, national troops engaged terrorists, killing 11 militants and destroying several hideouts. On Friday night, security forces thwarted an attempt by militants to establish roadblocks in Mangocher area of Kalat, resulting in 12 terrorist deaths.
The military affirmed that sanitisation operations would persist until all perpetrators and facilitators are brought to justice. Despite these developments, no group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attacks. Balochistan remains a hotspot for violence by Baloch extremists who frequently target security forces and individuals from other provinces.
Challenges in Balochistan
Balochistan is Pakistan’s largest province but remains underdeveloped despite its rich resources. The region has seen a rise in terror attacks after the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan group ended a fragile ceasefire with the government. The year 2024 was particularly deadly for Pakistan's civil and military security forces, with 685 personnel killed in 444 terror attacks.
Gen Munir commended the bravery and determination of army officers, Frontier Corps, and law enforcement agencies in combating terrorism. He reiterated the army's commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of Balochistan's people.
