Nepal Earthquake: 140 Dead, Many Injured As Rescuers Race Against Time To Find Survivors

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 struck Nepal's Jajarkot district, resulting in a tragic loss of at least 140 lives. Among the casualties, 80 individuals lost their lives, and over 140 people suffered injuries in the regions of Jajarkot and Rukum in Western Nepal, as reported by Nepal Television, a state-run broadcaster.

The earthquake's epicenter was located in Lamidanda, Jajarkot district.

The Nepal Police has confirmed that the toll in last night's earthquake has risen to 133.

Its impact was felt not only in the immediate vicinity but also as far as Kathmandu and neighboring districts, reaching as far as New Delhi in India.

In response to this disaster, Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal 'Prachanda' swiftly directed a medical team to the affected area on Saturday morning. Both the Nepal Army and Nepal Police have been actively engaged in rescue efforts, as confirmed by officials.

All the heli-operators in Nepal have been asked to remain in standby and regular flight operations have been suspended to facilitate the airlifting of injured from affected areas, say the officials, reports ANI.
