Shehbaz Sharif to be next Prime Minister: Pak media

Nawaz Sharif's younger brother Shehbaz Sharif, who is the current Chief Minister of Punjab province, will be the next prime minister of Pakistan, said reports.

Geo News reported that the decision was taken during a high-level PML-N meeting.

Speculations are also rife that Khawaja Asif could be the interim prime minister for 45 days after which Shahbaz would be elected for National Assembly seat through bypolls.

According to reports, either Hamaz Shehbaz Sharif or Rana Sanaullah will replace Shehbaz Sharif as the Punjab chief minister.

Nawaz Sharif today stepped down from his post as the Prime Minister after Supreme Court's verdict on Panama Papers.

Earlier today, the Supreme Court disqualified Nawaz Sharif from holding public office in a landmark decision on the Panama Papers case. The verdict was handed down unanimously by a five-member bench in the court.

The Supreme Court also ordered the National Accountability Court to start a corruption case against Sharif, his children -- Hussain and Hassan -- and his daughter Maryam.
