King Harald V of Norway Recovering from Infection in Langkawi
King Harald V of Norway is recuperating from an infection during his vacation in Langkawi, Malaysia. His condition is improving, and he is receiving treatment at the Sultanah Maliha Hospital.
King Harald V of Norway remains hospitalized on the northern resort island of Langkawi, Malaysia, due to an infection. Despite his condition, officials have reported improvements in the 87-year-old monarch's health. Crown Prince Haakon, Harald's son, shared positive news, stating that his father is doing better and requires rest as his condition progresses.

Royal Household Confirms Improvement
The royal household issued a brief statement confirming that the King's personal physician is present in Langkawi and has verified the improvement in his condition. Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre expressed concern regarding the King's illness and emphasized the importance of ensuring his speedy and healthy return home.
Treatment at Sultanah Maliha Hospital
According to Malaysia's national news agency, Bernama, King Harald is receiving treatment at the Sultanah Maliha Hospital in Langkawi. Sources indicate that he is staying in the hospital's Royal Suite. However, the hospital declined to comment when contacted by The Associated Press, and Malaysia's health ministry advised the media to await a potential statement.
Crown Prince Provides Update
Crown Prince Haakon shared that he had spoken with his parents over the phone on Wednesday and reported that the King was in good spirits. While acknowledging his father's age as a factor, Haakon expressed confidence in the hospital's care and stated that the decision regarding the King's return home would be made later.
Recent Health Concerns
King Harald's hospitalization comes amid a series of health issues in recent months. In January, he was on sick leave due to a respiratory infection, and in December, he was admitted to the hospital with an infection and received intravenous antibiotics. Additionally, he was hospitalized in August with a fever.
No Plans for Abdication
Despite these health concerns, King Harald has repeatedly affirmed his intention to continue his reign, unlike his second cousin, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, who recently announced her decision to step down. Crown Prince Haakon has assumed the King's duties during his periods of illness, in accordance with protocol.
Upcoming Official Engagements
The royal palace in Oslo has confirmed that there are no alterations planned for Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit's scheduled trip to southern Norway on Wednesday and Thursday. King Harald's first official engagement after his vacation is set for March 8, when he and Crown Prince Haakon will preside over the state council meeting with the government at the royal palace in Oslo.
Commitment to the Throne
On January 23, King Harald reaffirmed his commitment to the oath he made upon ascending the throne in 1991, stating that his reign will last for life.
