Israel Initiates Ground Raids Against Hezbollah as Larger Operation Looms
Israel has initiated small-scale ground raids against Hezbollah in Lebanon, as it prepares for a larger operation, according to officials. A US official confirmed that Israel has informed the US about these raids but has not provided a timeline for a broader offensive. The US supports Israel's right to self-defence and has not asked Israel to cease its operations in Lebanon.

Hezbollah, despite recent losses, remains defiant. The group has vowed to continue fighting even after the death of its leader Hassan Nasrallah and six top commanders. Israeli strikes have targeted thousands of militant sites across Lebanon, resulting in over 1,000 deaths, including many women and children, according to Lebanon's Health Ministry.
Hezbollah's Response and Leadership Changes
Acting leader Naim Kassem stated that Hezbollah is prepared for a potential Israeli ground invasion. He assured that the group's military capabilities remain intact despite recent setbacks. "Israel was not able to affect our military capabilities," Kassem said in a televised statement. He added that replacements for the slain commanders are already in place.
The leadership transition within Hezbollah is underway, with Hashem Safieddine expected to succeed Nasrallah. Safieddine, who oversees Hezbollah's political affairs, is a cousin of the late leader. Meanwhile, Kassem will continue as acting leader until a new head is elected.
Escalation and International Reactions
The conflict has intensified with Hezbollah increasing rocket attacks on Israel. Most rockets have been intercepted or landed in open areas, causing injuries but no fatalities since September 19. The situation remains tense as both sides prepare for further confrontations.
European countries are taking precautionary measures by evacuating their citizens from Lebanon. Germany and Bulgaria have sent planes to evacuate diplomats' families and vulnerable groups. The Lebanese government estimates up to a million people may be displaced due to the ongoing conflict.
International Calls for Ceasefire
The United States and France have urged for a ceasefire to prevent further escalation involving Iran. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot called on both Israel and Hezbollah to halt their attacks during his visit to Beirut. Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati expressed commitment to an immediate ceasefire and deploying troops in southern Lebanon as per a UN resolution.
Despite international pressure, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shows little interest in halting military actions against Hezbollah. The conflict continues as Israel aims to secure its borders and ensure the safety of its citizens amidst ongoing hostilities with Hezbollah and Hamas.
The situation remains volatile with no clear resolution in sight. Both sides are preparing for potential escalations while international efforts focus on de-escalation and humanitarian relief for those affected by the conflict.
