Washington, Jan 17: Former US astronaut Eugene Cernan, the last man to set foot on the moon, died on Monday aged 82, following ongoing health issues.

Eugene Cernan was born on March 14, 1934, attended Purdue University where received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1956. He then became a fighter pilot before joining NASA in 1963.
