Imran Khan's PTI Calls for Halt on Security Agencies Interfering in Politics

Pakistan's political landscape is once again under intense scrutiny as the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Core Committee voices strong opposition against what it perceives as undue interference by security agencies in political matters. The committee, representing the jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan's party, convened recently to address several pressing issues, including the aftermath of the May 9 incidents and the role of the military's media wing.

PTI Demands End to Political Meddling

The PTI Core Committee's meeting was a platform to express outright rejection of the Directorate General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR)'s recent press conference, which they deemed unconstitutional and misleading. The committee criticized the press conference for its contradictions and for tarnishing the armed forces' reputation and constitutional role. This stance comes in light of the DG ISPR labeling PTI, a party with substantial public backing, as an anarchic group, a label that PTI vehemently denies.

Furthermore, the committee reiterated its condemnation of the May 9 false flag operation, advocating for a high-level judicial investigation to identify those responsible for the violence and destruction that ensued. The events of May 9 last year, triggered by Khan's arrest, saw his supporters launching attacks on government and military installations, leading to over 10,000 PTI leaders and workers being detained.

The PTI Core Committee also highlighted its concerns over what it describes as state oppression aimed at quelling peaceful protests against the May 9 incidents. It denounced the violation of privacy through illegal sieges on homes of PTI leaders and workers and condemned violence against peaceful demonstrators. The demand for an independent judicial inquiry into these events was strongly reiterated.

In addition to addressing internal matters, the committee criticized external influences on Pakistan's political processes. It specifically pointed out the Electoral Commission of Pakistan's (ECP) alleged interference in the nomination process for election tribunal judges by the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court in Punjab. The ECP's actions were labeled as criminal and a failure to uphold its constitutional duty to conduct free, impartial, and transparent elections.

The PTI Core Committee's meeting underscores a tumultuous period in Pakistan's politics, with calls for ending what it sees as a tradition of political interference by security agencies. The committee demands immediate cessation of what it considers revenge-driven politics and attempts to dismantle PTI under the guise of addressing the May 9 false flag operation. Additionally, it seeks a thorough investigation into alleged electoral fraud following the general elections on February 8 and statements made by former caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar.

This gathering not only reflects PTI's stance on recent developments but also highlights ongoing tensions between political entities and security agencies in Pakistan. As these issues unfold, the call for judicial inquiries and an end to political interference remains at the forefront of PTI's agenda.
