Harris and Trump Intensify Campaign Efforts in Key States Before Election Day 2023

A presidential campaign marked by a felony trial, an incumbent president's withdrawal, and multiple assassination attempts is nearing its conclusion. Kamala Harris is focusing her efforts in Pennsylvania, which holds 19 crucial electoral votes. She plans to visit working-class areas like Allentown and will conclude with a rally in Philadelphia featuring Lady Gaga and Oprah Winfrey.

Final Campaign Push by Harris and Trump

Donald Trump began his day with four rallies across three states, starting in Raleigh, North Carolina. Addressing the crowd, he said, "With North Carolina, I've always gotten there. It's ours to lose." Trump discussed his immigration policies and criticised his Democratic opponents. He also referenced a video from his 2016 campaign while admiring Elon Musk's rocket technology.

Key Campaign Stops

Trump's campaign day continued with events in Reading and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania—locations also visited by Harris. The Republican nominee concluded his campaign with a late-night event in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Meanwhile, Harris aims to become the first woman of South Asian descent to be president, following her historic vice-presidential win.

The 2016 campaign was notably affected by the "Access Hollywood" tape scandal involving Trump. Despite this, he has maintained support from some voters. Ebony Coots, a former Hillary Clinton supporter now backing Trump, expressed anxiety about the election outcome. She joked about leaving the planet if Harris wins.

Historic Election Outcomes

Over 77 million Americans have voted early. A Trump victory would make him the first convicted felon to assume the presidency after his New York trial. He would also be the second president to serve non-consecutive terms since Grover Cleveland. Harris seeks to break barriers as the first Black woman and person of South Asian descent in the Oval Office.

Harris ascended to lead the Democratic ticket after Joe Biden's poor debate performance led to his withdrawal. Her campaign has focused on generational change and abortion rights following the Supreme Court's 2022 decision. She has criticised Trump's role in the January 6 Capitol attack and built a coalition including figures like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Dick Cheney.

Campaign Strategies

Harris has mostly avoided mentioning Trump by name recently, referring to him as "the other guy." She promotes problem-solving and consensus-building while maintaining an optimistic tone reminiscent of her campaign's early days. In Scranton, Pennsylvania, she urged supporters to engage with neighbours during the final hours before Election Day.

In Allentown, Harris will rally with rapper Fat Joe and later visit a Puerto Rican restaurant in Reading with Ocasio-Cortez. These stops follow derogatory comments about Puerto Rico at a recent Trump rally. Ron Kessler, a veteran attending Harris's rally, emphasised the importance of voting for democracy and the country.

Trump continues to claim that US elections are rigged against him and has made controversial remarks about journalists. His closing argument includes the slogan: "Kamala broke it. I will fix it." The election outcome hinges on seven key states: Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona, and Nevada.

Final Campaign Efforts

Harris's team remains confident due to a significant gender gap in early voting data and strong campaign infrastructure. They have mobilised over 90,000 volunteers who knocked on more than 3 million doors across battleground states. Despite this confidence, Harris aides maintain that she is still an underdog.

Trump's campaign is also optimistic about attracting younger and working-class voters across racial lines through his populist appeal. They aim to build an unconventional Republican coalition even as traditional GOP support wanes among college-educated voters shifting towards Democrats.

The election results will soon reveal whether Harris can make history or if Trump will return for another term amidst ongoing legal challenges and political controversies.
