"Fu*# Off Indian..." 5 Men Attack Indian Student In Australia; Hospitalised

An Indian student in Adelaide, Australia, has been hospitalised following a violent assault. Authorities are investigating the incident as a potential racially motivated attack. This event has caused outrage within the Indian community and reignited discussions about international student safety.

Charanpreet Singh, aged 23, was with his wife near Kintore Avenue on July 19 when they were allegedly attacked by five men. The couple had parked their car to enjoy the city's light displays around 9:22pm when the assailants approached them.

Details of the Assault

Eyewitnesses and social media videos show Singh being hit with metal knuckles or sharp objects while racial slurs were shouted at him. The attackers fled, leaving Singh unconscious and severely injured on the road. Singh recounted from his hospital bed that a parking dispute escalated into a racially charged assault.

"They just said, 'F--- off, Indian,' and after that they just started punching," he recalled. "You can change anything in your body, but you can't change the colours." Singh suffered facial fractures and brain trauma and was treated overnight at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Community Reaction

The local Indian community is deeply shaken by this incident, with many expressing support for Singh online. "When things like this happen, it makes you feel like you should go back," Singh said. South Australia Police confirmed they responded to Kintore Avenue before 9:30pm and found Singh with facial injuries.

A police spokesperson stated that investigations are ongoing. A 20-year-old man from Enfield has been arrested and charged with assault causing harm, while other suspects remain unidentified. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and urging witnesses to provide information.

Official Condemnation

Premier Peter Malinauskas condemned the attack, stating it is "completely unwelcome in our state". He emphasised that racial attacks do not reflect the majority's views in their community. Meanwhile, another similar incident occurred in Dublin involving an Indian man in his 40s who was attacked by teenagers.

The Dublin victim was accused of inappropriate behaviour before being beaten and humiliated. Gardaí in Tallaght are investigating this case as well. Councillor Baby Pereppadan noted that the victim was too shocked to speak much about the incident.

Protest Against Racism

Sinn Féin's Seán Crowe commented on the situation in Dublin: "You are sowing hate, fear, and division." A protest is planned for July 26 to denounce increasing racist violence in Ireland. Both incidents highlight ongoing concerns about racial violence against Indians abroad.
