The United States has urged both India and China to engage in dialogue and reduce tensions along the border. Both India and China are in a standoff at Doklam for the past five weeks.

The comments by the US come ahead of the visit by National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval to China. The US also said it was closely monitoring the situation.

This is a situation that we are following closely and carefully. I'd have to refer you to the governments of India and China for more information on that, State Department Spokesman Heather Nauert told reporters at a news conference.

Responding to a question, she said the Indians and Chinese are talking on those issues.
